Frequently asked questions
- Is earthquake insurance compulsory in the TRNC?
- No. There is no compulsory state pool in the TRNC comparable to DASK in Türkiye, so earthquake insurance is optional. Banks do, however, usually require it when you take out a mortgage.
- Does earthquake insurance cover my contents?
- No, it insures the building itself only. Your contents need a home insurance package; taking both products together is recommended.
- How much excess applies?
- The portion of the loss equal to 2% of the sum insured is borne by the policyholder. This is standard market practice and is stated explicitly in the policy.
